Samsung GALAXY Note Edgeのホワイトはブラックより発売が1ヶ月ほど遅くなる予定、より美しくより高い質感を実現へ

GALAXYアンバサダープログラムの企画で開催された「GALAXYアンバサダータッチ&トライイベント」に参加し、Samsung Electronics Japanの担当者にSamsung GALAXY Note Edgeに関するいくつかの質問をしてきたので紹介する。
日本市場ではNTT docomoとKDDIがSamsung GALAXY Note Edgeを扱うことが決定しており、NTT docomoは2014年10月下旬にCharcoal Blackを発売、半月ほど遅れて2014年11月中旬にFrost Whiteを発売、KDDIは2014年10月下旬以降に発売とアナウンスしている。
Charcoal Blackを先に発売し、Frost Whiteの発売が遅くなることが分かる。
半月ほどFrost Whiteが遅くなる理由について聞いたところ“美しい白色を、そして高い質感を実現するために調整することが影響している”という。
“初期の段階ではフロントが白色でサイドが黒色の試作機も入ってきた”とのことで、特にサイドの色や質感などを調整するのに時間を要することを窺わせた。
サイドはサラサラとしたセラミックのような質感に仕上げられており、細部まで質感やデザインに拘っていることが見て取れた。
また、“ナビゲーションキーの表示具合の調整も関係している”とのことである。
具体的には、Samsung GALAXY Note Edgeのナビゲーションキーはホームキーの両横はタッチセンサ式でバックライトが組み込まれていて光るようになっているが、Frost Whiteは“(バックライトの)滲みや明るさなどの透過具合も調整が難しかった”という。
現在、Samsung GALAXY Note Edgeは一部の店舗やショールームで展示されており、展示されている個体はCharcoal Blackばかりであるが、会場にはFrost Whiteの実機も展示されていて自由に触れることができた。
